Samsung Electro-Mechanics announced on the 30th that, in 3Q 2017, the company recorded KRW 1,841.1 billion in revenue and KRW 103.2 billion in operating profit, citing its consolidated financial statements. The revenue increased by 17% QoQ, and 26% YoY. The operating profit increased by 46% QoQ, and 706% YoY.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics explained that the mass production of new models by its strategic accounts has boosted the sales of its dual cameras and camera modules and High Density Interconnect (HDI) boards (widely used as main boards in smartphones). In addition, it reported a significant increase in the sales of its RF-PCBs (Rigid Flex Printed Circuit Boards) to be used in the new models of its strategic accounts overseas.
※ Performances and Strategies by Sectors
[Digital Module]sector reported a revenue of KRW 822 billion, a 2% decrease QoQ. The revenue, however, increased YoY, which was motivated by the use of dual cameras by the company’s strategic accounts for the first time, the expanded supply of camera modules for cars, and the new supply of system modules.
In 4Q, the company plans to expand its supply accounts by developing dual cameras with distinguished performance. The company also plans to secure a technologically superior position for low-price models, as these models are expected to be increasingly fitted with dual cameras.
[Chip Parts]sector reported a revenue of KRW 608 billion, a 12% increase QoQ. The increase was due to the production of new models by the company’s strategic accounts overseas, the expanded supply of small and ultra-capacity MLCCs, and the increase in the demand for high-spec MLCCs by Chinese accounts.
The company will enhance its capabilities to supply MLCCs for IT products through its production sites overseas, as the market demand is expected to increase in the future. The company will also set out to secure new accounts by expanding its high-capacity, high-reliability product lines.
[Board]sector recorded KRW 399.6 billion in revenue, which represents a 25% increase QoQ. The sales increase came from the mass production of RF-PCBs for the company’s overseas strategic accounts, and the increased supply of smartphone main boards to the strategic accounts. In 4Q, the company plans to maximize its RF-PCB production capabilities, and build its presence in the high-value–added main board market by securing advanced miniaturization and thinning technologies for the next-generation HDI boards.
