Heart-warming year-end social responsibility activities2019-11-22
2019 is coming to a close. Here are some stories of Samsung Electro-Mechanics’ activities with disadvantaged neighbors in closing out 2019 in a warm fashion.
1. CEO volunteers at a child-care center
On November 1, CEO Yun Tae Lee and more than 30 employees visited Donggwangwon, a child-care center located in Hwaseo-dong, Suwon-si, and volunteered to create a study space for the children and paint a mural in the garden.
Those participating in the volunteer activity used power tools to assemble furniture, including desks, tables, chairs, and bookcases, to create an impressive study space for the children.
In addition, in the Donggwangwon garden, the employees and students from Suwon Women’s University joined hearts and hands to draw a mural.
2. Gimjang of Love event
Gimjang, a necessary activity before a winter! Samsung Electro-Mechanics has made kimchi to share the spicy love with disadvantaged neighbors every year since 2002.
This year, the three plants located in Suwon, Sejong, and Busan each participated in the gimjang volunteer activity.
The cabbage used in gimjang were purchased from sister villages in Togomi Village in Hwacheon and Seumsaga Village in Sejong, thereby raising farmers’ incomes, while disadvantaged neighbors in the local community receive eco-friendy kimchi—a volunteer activity that aims for two birds with one stone.
3. Annual concert of Hello! SEM Orchestra for disabled children
On November 17, SK Atrium in Suwon-si held the sixth annual concert of Hello! SEM Orchesttra.
Hello! SEM Orchestra is the first orchestra in Korea for disabled children and youth which Samsung Electro-Mechanics has been sponsoring since the orchestra’s founding.
Hello! SEM Orchestra has been serenading its audience with beautiful melody and fantastic entertainment that gets better with each year.
With a fantastic performance including familiar movie and musical music and a collaboration with vocal duo, along with commentary by Mi-sook Lee, an actress and an ambassador for the orchestra, this year’s concert was a tremendous success with thundering applause.
