SAMSUNG ELECTRO-MECHANICS

Established in 1973, Samsung Electro-Mechanics provided the foundation for technological independence of Korea’s components industry and grew into a company that develops and manufactures core electronics parts around the world. With approx. 48 years of history, from 1973 to today, let us revisit July within the context of Samsung Electro-Mechanics history.
 
1986ㅣAwarded Presidential Group Citation for excellent industrial accident prevention
In 1986, when Samsung Electro-Mechanics was working hard to diversify its markets and products, sales nearly doubled compared to the previous year thanks to the three lows (low dollar, low oil price, and low interest rate). As a result of focusing on domestic sales and exports, we achieved three-fold growth in domestic sales and direct export.
 
In terms of localization of imported materials, Samsung Electro-Mechanics received the Iron Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit, the highest honor, and positioned itself as an industry leader. We also increased the corporate value by receiving the Presidential Citation for Excellent Industrial Accident Prevention and the Presidential Citation at the Precision Industry Contest.
 
1989ㅣFirst plant export of tuners, DY, and FBT to CALCOM in India

In February 1989, Samsung Electro-Mechanics signed a 5-year plant export contract with India's CALCOM to supply 200,000 units of color TV tuners, DY, and FBT in the form of CKD per year, and began shipping in July. The contract was expected to increase sales by approximately $10 million. This was proof that Samsung Electro-Mechanics' technology grew enough to export overseas as well as a meaningful achievement that instilled confidence in all employees and drove the construction of overseas plants.

1992ㅣ Developed Korea’s first DY and FBT for HDTV
In July 1992, we became the first to develop DY and FBT for high-definition (HD) TV in Korea. This was possible thanks to DY for flat-panel square TV that we began development in 1990 as well as multi-layer FBT technology. The technology developed at the time was applicable to all broadcasting methods around the world.

2000ㅣDeveloped PSM for mobile phone image data transmission
Samsung Electro-Mechanics developed the world's first frequency generator module for IS-95C that enables image and data transmission with mobile phones. The product enabled image transmission by reducing the time it takes to change the operating frequency to 1/100 of that of existing products.

2014ㅣSelected as the best company at the ESG Evaluation Awards hosted by the Korea Corporate Governance Service

On July 3, 2014, Samsung Electro-Mechanics was selected as the best company at the ESG Evaluation Awards hosted by the Korea Corporate Governance Service. Since 2011, the ESG evaluation system has comprehensively evaluated and awarded companies with the best practices in environmental, social, and governance sectors to promote corporate sustainability management and provide investor information. Samsung Electro-Mechanics was selected as the best ESG company in 2014, after being named as an excellent company in 2012 and 2013 in the securities sector.

Since then, Samsung Electro-Mechanics' sustainability management efforts have been recognized by the following: Being listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) World for 12 consecutive years and awarded the top grade in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) for four straight years, named in FTSE4Good Index for 10 consecutive years, and attaining the A grade in the integrated ESG rating by the Korea Corporate Governance Service in 2020.
