Samsung Electro-Mechanics is carrying out “Thursday Talk”, a time to communicate your future concerns on various topics, such as corporate earnings or organizational culture.
“Thursday Talk” is a weekly conversation session with management every Thursday.
Although only a few executives and employees are participating in this event due to the social distancing practice as a result of COVID-19, the sessions are being aired live for all executives and employees in Korea to watch in real-time.
Thursday Talk is carried out through a mutual conversation between the CEO and employees rather than as a one-directional communication. To do so, a survey is carried out for employees in advance to compile a list of questions, resulting in informal communication sessions with various Q&A formats, from personal questions such as hobbies or preferred attire to more difficult one such as strategies to improve the competitiveness of the company.
In particular, the CEO, Kyung Kyehyun, is known to frequently use an “inquisitive” rather than “commanding” conversational method, and he explained that this not only helps him lead the other person in the direction that I wish to without any particular dissent, but also allows him to let the other person contemplate on solutions by himself or herself.
On the one hand, “Thursday Talk” is not only for conversations with Kyung Kyehyun.
The Head of the Module Solution Business Division recently shared his thoughts on how the company has been working joyfully and showing fast executional capabilities through an organizational structure that allows for employees to freely exchange opinions, and as we are now reaching a technological inflection point with the advent of the 5G era, he shared his business strategy on how to improve the competitiveness of components.
The Head of the Component Solution Business Division reviewed the growth history of the business unit and introduced the direction that it will go towards in the future. He also revealed his aspirations and passionate conviction to continue to provide motivation to become the number one company in the world as well as create a culture in which free communication is possible.
The Head of the Circuit Board Solution Business Division revealed his goal of his Thursday Talk to “show himself and his business unit as it is”, and explained the path that the business has gone through since he joined the company in 1996. Lastly, he cheered up his employees by emphasizing the need to cultivate the capability to see through illusions and identify the essence in order to become a strong organization that can withstand crises.
