Samsung Electro-Mechanics is practicing sustainability management based on the trust of various stakeholders. Today, we introduce Samsung Electro-Mechanics' environmental management system, aimed at protecting the global environment among various sustainability issues.
 
ㅣEnvironmental management of Samsung Electro-Mechanics
Recently, countries around the world have strengthened environmental regulations such as EU RoHS and REACH SVHC. Customers also request product environment information beyond the laws and regulations. Accordingly, Samsung Electro-Mechanics manufactures products in compliance with the management policies of hazardous substances in products by client and country.
Notably, Samsung Electro-Mechanics operates its own hazardous substance management system. We manage chemical substance data of all raw and subsidiary materials we trade, and monitor and reflect policies on the hazardous substances policies of key clients at least once a year.
 
ㅣProactive response to product environment regulations
 

From the in-house R&D stage, we review in advance whether materials contain any hazardous substances, and if they contain hazardous substances, we limit the use of such materials. We proactively manage hazardous substances in products before the enforcement of regulations, and since 2019, we have voluntarily prohibited the use of biocides and carcinogenic flame retardants. Furthermore, we plan to voluntarily reduce the use of raw and subsidiary materials containing four types of phthalates (DINP, DIDP, DnOP, DnHP) in addition to complying with RoHS regulations by 2025.

ㅣConcerted efforts by employees and suppliers across divisions 

All chemicals introduced to the company undergo a preliminary safety assessment under the chemical management system (CMS). All chemical substances are managed by grade according to the level of risk, and for high-risk grade substances, we substitute other substances or seek improvement by developing reduction plans.
In addition, Samsung Electro-Mechanics provides annual product environment training to suppliers. This is an effort to strengthen the suppliers' ability to respond to regulations and to improve the eco-friendliness of products. With this support, we ensure that our suppliers supply raw and subsidiary materials that meet Samsung Electro-Mechanics' hazardous substance management standards.
