Samsung Electro-Mechanics Cooperates with POSTECH for Nurturing Key Talents

▶Held a ‘Welcome Day,’ with 40 professors and students of Pohang University of Science and Technology (“POSTECH”) invited on April 28 at the Busan site
- Field of industrial-educational cooperation for securing technical competitiveness and nurturing professional personnel for materials/components
- Introduction of advanced technologies such as MLCC and package plates and on-site experience of advanced technologies including core process tour
▶In November 2022, Samsung Electro-Mechanics and POSTECH entered into an MOU for nurturing talents in the fields of materials/components
- Implementation of courses for fostering employment-linked talents, operation of educational courses tailored for materials/components and development of 9 research projects.

On April 28, Samsung Electro-Mechanics held a ‘Welcome Day for Talents in the Development of Next-Generation Materials/Components’ at its Busan site by inviting 40 professors and students from the Department of Material Science and Engineering, POSTECH.

Following the ‘MOU for Fostering Talents in Materials/Components between Samsung Electro-Mechanics and POSTECH’ entered into in November 2022 at POSTECH, this event was aimed to introduce certain key products being manufactured at the Busan site of Samsung Electro-Mechanics and to enlarge the field of future industrial-educational cooperation by aligning it with the relevant research areas.

On that day, POSTECH professors and students listened to the explanations about the advanced technologies such as MLCC and semi-conductor package plates of Samsung Electro-Mechanics at the Busan site and toured the core process lines used for MLCC production.

In particular, POSTECH students commented in chorus that “it was tremendously exciting to observe the manufacturing process of MLCC that is manufactured with the advanced technologies of Samsung Electro-Mechanics,” while visiting the clean room that is managed to ensure that any tiny alien substances smaller than 1um (micro-meter) fine dusts do not get into a 30cm(w) x 30cm(d) x 30cm(h) cube.

Lee Yoojung, a POSTECH doctoral course student attending this event, remarked that “it is a really great experience to verify on-site the processes that I have through of reading books, adding that “I am amazed by the technical power held by Samsung Electro-Mechanics while observing the real products and want to contribute to the reinforced technical powers for materials/components after successfully completing my research at POSTECH.”

Professor Choi Siyoung of Department of Materials and Engineering, POSTECH said that “this event is considered to be a good lecture that enables our students to tour the site where real products are developed and manufactured” and that “I will focus my capabilities to cultivate core talents as needed by the academy and the corporations.”

Director Ahn Junghoon, head of the Package Support Team at Samsung Electro-Mechanics, commented that “I wish that this event can be a momentum for excellent students to have more interests in Samsung Electro-Mechanics and materials/components area,” saying that “Samsung Electro-Mechanics has always needed talents for the intensive and dynamic development sites.”

Samsung Electro-Mechanics has been focusing its capacities to foster and secure expertized talents in order to procure technical competitive edge in the fields of materials/components.   Also, Samsung Electro-Mechanics has been operating educational courses tailored for materials/components and conducting research projects, by entering into an arrangement for nurturing employment-linked talents with POSTECH last year. Currently, Samsung Electro-Mechanics is performing 9 projects including the element technologies related to MLCC/semi-conductor package plates in collaboration with POSTECH.
